Rhode Island continues lighthouse series

The 2000 Rhode Island duck stamp, the 12th year of the program, continues its lighthouse series, the second of four years.

Keith Mueller designed the artwork for the stamp, which pictures canvasbacks at Conimicut Point, located at the mouth of the Providence River in Narragansett Bay. The existing 58’ – three-story lighthouse, made of cast iron and granite caisson was first lit in 1883 and is still operational. It is owned and managed by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Stamps are issued as collector type; hunter stamps, with "hunter" printed on the face of the stamp; and a Governor’s edition with each stamp printed "Governor" and signed by Gov. Lincoln Almond.
