California announces plans to take stamps off sale

The California Department of Fish and Game is holding a final sale of expired duck and upland game bird stamps. The stamps will be on sale until June 30, 2002. After that date, stamps dating from 1981 through 2001, with a face value of over $2 million will be sold or destroyed.

The announcement states “this change will benefit collectors as they will no longer have to compete with CDFG in selling these items, and the limited availability will inherently increase their value.”

In future years, duck stamps and upland game bird stamps will be offered for sale only through the June 30 expiration date.

Duck stamps not available from the department include the years 1971-80 (CA1-10). All years of upland game stamps (1993-2001) are available. Stamps will be sold at face value.
