Upcoming Hometown Event, First Day Ceremony

On Saturday, September 8, the Minnesota Waterfowl Association will play host to the hometown event for the new federal duck stamp. Artist Bob Hautman will be honored at the event, termed “The Duck Factory,” for results can be directly seen from acreage converted or reclaimed for wildlife in Minnesota’s highly productive areas.

Hautman has designed two cancels and two cachets for the 2001 Federal Duck Stamp and 2001 Minnesota Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, which features a black duck with Hautman’s artwork.

The event will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (rain or shine) and will take place at Stoney Ridge Farm, west of New London, Minn., next to Sibley State Park. Admission is free with free parking. A raffle and silent auction will be conducted and lunch will be available on the grounds.

There will be a myriad of other activities scheduled throughout the day, including a youth woods walk with a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forester, informal retriever trials, decoy makers, and duck, goose, and turkey call makers. The Minnesota DNR and US Fish and Wildlife Service will offer many displays and exhibits, along with an Environmental Learning Tent, and several seminars. The Minnesota Junior Duck Stamp Program plans a display as well.
